JUMP TO: Message Board Discussion Forum

Thinking of hiking all or part of the Grand Enchantment Trail? Go ahead, shout it from the mountain!

Maybe you're looking for a hiking partner, or perhaps you're simply wondering who else might be out here (besides the musk hog and wild sheep). For that matter, it's quite possible you'd just like to trade notes and check reality with others in the fledgling G.E.T. hiking community. Whatever the case, here you are and we're glad to have you!

There are two ways to communicate and contribute here:

  • Discussion Forum

The GET Discussion Forum is a place to interact with others about the trail. From trip planning and prep, to trail conditions and navigation, to walking the walk, or talking the talk thereafter - as long as it relates to the GET, it's on-topic for the forum and anyone is free to contribute. The forum's membership includes prospective and veteran GET hikers, as well as folks with local knowledge of the route. Those who have gone before are more than happy to answer the questions of those who might like to go.

To browse or join the Discussion Forum, click here.

  • Message Board

If you have hiking plans along the GET, are looking for a trail partner, or if you're a trail angel or have other announcements that would benefit from prominent, long-term display, consider posting them to the GET Message Board, below. Along with the Discussion Forum, this message board can be a useful way to facilitate further networking - such as by e-mail, phone, or public venue - directly between interested parties.

Just fill out the form at the bottom of this page and we'll add your entry to the message board after reviewing it. Entries will stay on the main board for about a year from original date of posting, or we can remove or edit them per request. Oh, and of course we'll alter your email address [with (at) instead of @] in order to prevent spamming. New messages are automatically posted to the Discussion Forum as well, which is where the online trail community hangs out.

Even if your plans are only vague and tentative, we encourage you to "use the board" for the purpose of building momentum within the trail community.

(Updated 12/22/11): I finished the GET last week finally; hiked into First Water Trailhead Friday morning, Dec. 16, after 57 days on the trail. Had some pretty rough weather out of Safford. Snowed on me for nearly 4 days straight in the Pinaleno Mountains and never got above freezing. Was hiking through knee deep snow for a couple of days and melting snow for drinking water because my water kept freezing in my pack. Then the sun finally came out and had a beautiful hike down into Superior. The last couple of months on this trip have been some of the most enjoyable times I've ever spent. Thanks, Brett, for all your work putting the GET together.

(Posted 4/29/11): Looking for a ride from Albuquerque to T or C (Monticello) on 5/17/2011. Last year we hiked from First Water to Monticello, where we had to leave due to injury. Now it's time to get back and finish. Any Angels in Albuquerque???

(Posted 4/16/11): I just wanted to let the GET community know that I will be hiking bits of the GET and Brett's SKIT route as a part of my Western Circle Hike. You can find more details and maps on my website. I am currently about 650 miles into my roughly 6000 mile trek. I am now in the Phoenix area and have joined the AZT fully now. My route will be AZT to the border, SKIT to Safford (there is a road walk connection between the Dragoons and the Chriachaua I have planned), the GET from Safford to the Gila and then off on the CDT. Happy hiking to all who are out this year.

(Posted 4/9/11): Grassy USFS Lookout (33-47'N, 107-28'W) opens on Monday, 4/11/11. Very windy and dry so far this year. There's always a good cup of coffee and potable water for GET hikers. I can point out some of the remarkable history and archeology you've just walked through. Off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after May 1. Look forward to meeting you. RK

(Updated 1/27/11): We're starting the 31st instead of the 10th. [Original post follows: Unless AZ and NM get dumped on again like last year we'll be heading out to Phoenix on the 10th and attempt to hike as much as we can winter conditions permitting.]

(Posted 11/30/10): Partner needed. I'm not looking to contemplate my navel. It's nice to share the sights and experience with someone/others. I typically hike about 2.5 MPH, AVG 2.0 with breaks. 20 miles per day is usual with more OK for trail reasons. I'll slow down gladly but will not go faster than I'm comfortable.
